* In response to higher efficiency, PV InfoLink will cancel the quote in price for mono PERC cell with an efficiency of 21.4% next month.
This week’s polysilicon price remained unchanged. The polysilicon market still focused on the orders placed previously before the end of this year. Only a limited number of contracts have been signed for January.
As overseas polysilicon manufacturers pushed down price for mono wafer use, top-tier Chinese manufacturers chose to stick to the bottom line, leading to a similar price gap between the highest and lowest price. Mono wafer use polysilicon is priced at RMB 78-82/kg. The mainstream price of multi wafer use polysilicon reached RMB 73/kg plus or minus RMB 1/kg, similar to the previous price level. The order price for January 2019 will depend on the demand and the amount of stock manufacturers are going to prepare before the Lunar New Year.
For the overseas, although manufacturers want to have more cash on hand at the end of this year, the trading price of polysilicon basically remained stable. The mainstream price stayed flat at US$ 8.3-9/kg.
After Longi confirmed not to make any price adjustment for January this week, all prices remained stable, similar to last week’s price level. For multi wafers, despite the higher cell prices, multi wafer price remained unchanged at RMB 2.05-2.1/piece.
For the overseas, with the changes in currencies and mono being the mainstream product, multi wafer is priced at US$ 0.265/piece in the foreign market. Judging from now, wafer price should remain at the current level recently; whether price will change for mid-to-late January will depend on the level of stock preparation for Luna new Year.
The SE-PERC cell market continued to witness strong demand for January in either China or the overseas. Even with the stock preparation before the Lunar New Year, the supply is still slightly tight. This again pushed up mono PERC cell prices. Mono cell with an efficiency of over 21.5% is priced at RMB 1.28-1.3/W in China and US$ 0.162-0.165/W in the overseas. Taiwan’s mono PERC cell price reached US$ 0.17-0.178/W.
With the demand support from India and Japan as well as the stock preparation in January, multi cell prices can be slightly scaled up too to RMB 0.86-0.9/W in China and US$ 0.108-0.115/W in the overseas.
With the current level of module price, the rising cell price has put a lot of pressure on module makers and therefore mono PERC and multi cell prices are expecting to have reached a high point.
The PERC module market witnesses high order visibility in 1Q19, and thus some module makers have increased quote of PERC module prices starting from mid-December in China and the overseas. But pressured by the end-user market, it’s difficult to push up the actual trading price. Orders for 1Q19 are mostly traded at the current price level. 310W PERC module price will continue to stay flat at RMB 2.2-2.3/W.
In the aspect of multi modules, although it’s rumored that many top-tier vertically-integrated manufacturers have received a large amount of orders in 1Q19; many module makers do not have full order status for multi modules. Despite manufacturers had a bit confidence in the quote of multi module prices for January, the trading price of conventional multi modules will decline significantly in 1Q19.
Overall, the module sector will continue to witness strong demand till before the Lunar New Year. Yet, demand after the Lunar New Year remains to be seen, depending on China’s new target release.
